Guddu and Charlie (Shahid Kapoor) are identical twins who have grew up on the streets of Mumbai. Both brothers have a speech impediment—Charlie has a lisp while Guddu stutters in his speech. The film begins in medias res with a voiceover narration by Charlie, who describes how he and his brother can never agree with anything, and Charlie's belief in taking shortcuts to fulfill his dream of becoming a bookmaker at a horse racing course, where he currently works for three Bengali criminal brothers who fix races. Charlie is especially close with the youngest brother Mikhail (Chandan Roy Sanyal), whom he is even closer to than his own brother. Charlie is double-crossed by the jockey when he bets Rs.100,000 on a horse during a fixed race, losing all of his savings. Craving revenge, Charlie hunts down the jockey, who he finds to an upmarket hotel in the city.
